I love macaroni and cheese. I repeat: I LOVE MACARONI AND CHEESE. Since wrapping up the move to Portland in February, I’ve been hunting for my new favorite version of it. Honestly, I did not realize how much of a macaroni and cheese snob I was until I started this hunt. I felt a bit like Goldie Locks…some versions were too dry, others had too much cheese and a few left me feeling outright sad.

Just when I was ready to give up, Mac’d appeared. I knew this stuff was going to be worth my time (it’s in SE and I live “all the way” in NW) when I saw it was an eatery initially based in San Francisco. Regardless of how you feel about San Francisco, one thing is certain: the people there are too busy and pay too much in rent to eat crappy food. As such, I’ve never eaten anything in San Francisco I did not like.

Mac’d is a haven for snobs like me. Everything can be customized to your liking in an almost Chipotle-like fashion. Select from an offering of sauces, mixings and toppings to create a dish that is perfect for you and no one else. While it wasn’t the cheapest macaroni and cheese I have ever had (we paid a little under $40 for two portions and two sodas), I will say you certainly get what you pay for. Each portion could be enough for two servings and the amount of ingredients allowed each bite to be perfect from start to finish.

Life is too short to eat bad macaroni and cheese, so let Mac’d make life worth living. Details below!
